SnaPay is operated by Gigx Prime Consult of Accra, Ghana. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what you can ask us to do with it. It is written to be read, not to be got past.

What we collect

What you give us

  • Your name and, if you sell, your shop or trade name.
  • Your mobile money number and network. This is where your money arrives, so it is the most important thing we hold.
  • Your Ghana Card number and one photograph of your face, taken when you sign up. See Proving who you are below.
  • Anything you type into a payment — what a request is for, a message on a gift.

Proving who you are

When you sign up we ask for your Ghana Card number and one photograph of your face, taken with the camera at that moment. We ask for these so that an account can be traced to a real person if a payment is disputed, or if we are required to answer to a payment provider, a network or the authorities. We are required to know who holds an account before we help move money through it.

We want to be plain about one thing: we do not check your Ghana Card against any government record, and we do not match the photograph to your card. Nothing in SnaPay is described as “verified” on the strength of what you gave us here, and giving us these details does not raise a limit or unlock anything. They are a record, not a check.

Inside SnaPay these two items are held apart from the rest of your account. Ordinary staff cannot see them. When somebody with the right to see them opens them, that is itself recorded — who looked, at whose account, and when.

What the payment networks give us

  • The registered name on a mobile money wallet, so you can confirm you are paying or being paid by the right person before money moves.
  • Whether a payment succeeded or failed, and the reason it failed.

What we record as you use SnaPay

  • Payments, requests, refunds and disputes — amount, time, who was on each side, and status.
  • Basic technical information needed to keep the service working and secure, such as the type of device and app version.

We do not collect your mobile money PIN. You enter that on your own phone, with your network, and it never reaches us. We also do not upload your contact list — when you pick somebody from your contacts, your phone shows you its own picker and hands us only the one number you chose.

If you ask to hear when SnaPay launches

The sign-up box on our website asks for an email address or a phone number. We use it only to tell you when SnaPay is available, never for anything else, and we do not share or sell it. We keep it until launch news has gone out and for no more than twelve months after that, then delete it. You can ask us to remove it sooner by writing to joshuaazumah5@gmail.com.

If you contact us or join our talent list

Our contact form asks for your name, an email address or phone number, and your message. We use them only to reply to you. Our careers form asks for your name, an email address or phone number, the kind of work you do and, if you choose, a link to your work and a short note. We use them only to consider you for roles at SnaPay. We do not share or sell either. We keep messages for as long as we need to deal with them, and talent list details for no more than twelve months, then delete them. You can ask us to remove them sooner by writing to joshuaazumah5@gmail.com.

Why we use it

  • To move money — collecting from a payer and paying a recipient.
  • To show you a record of what happened and to help when it goes wrong.
  • To prevent fraud and mistakes, including confirming a wallet's registered name before money is sent to it.
  • To meet legal and regulatory obligations, including those of the payment providers we work through.
  • To trace an account to a person where a payment is disputed, where fraud is suspected, or where the law or a payment provider requires it. This is the only reason we hold your Ghana Card number and your photograph.

Who we share it with

  • Licensed payment providers and mobile money networks, to actually move the money. They receive the number, amount and reference for each payment.
  • Service providers who host and secure the service on our behalf.
  • Authorities, where we are required by Ghanaian law to provide information.

We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it for advertising.

How long we keep it

Payment records are kept for as long as required for accounting, tax and regulatory purposes. Account details are kept while your account is open. If you close your account we delete what we are not required to keep, and keep the rest only for as long as the law requires.

Your Ghana Card number and your photograph are kept while your account is open and for six years after it closes, which is the period over which we may still be asked to account for past payments. After that they are deleted. We will not keep them longer because they might one day be useful.

Your rights

Under the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843) you may ask us to:

  • Give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct anything that is wrong.
  • Delete data we are not required to keep.
  • Stop using your data in a particular way.

Write to joshuaazumah5@gmail.com and we will respond. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Data Protection Commission of Ghana.

Security

Access to personal data inside our own systems is restricted by role — most staff cannot see payout details at all, and every action taken on an account is logged with who did it and when. Your Ghana Card number and your photograph sit behind a further restriction: fewer people again can open them, and opening them is logged as an event in its own right, so a look is as answerable as a change.

Children

SnaPay is not for people under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date above and, where the change is significant, tell you in the app.
